    Hi Matt, will there be a transcript available for this talk as well? Just wanted to share this with a friend, especially to relate the parts regarding D&G and process/biology. Thanks for yours and Tim's great work as always - I'm really glad to see my continental, analytic and spiritual interests converge on very pertinent topics for our world today (in this case technics = us.. Great discussion. I have been looking for ways to merge Floridi and D&G with respect to information, or at least see what we could get out of such a coming-together. I would definitely say that Floridi's account of information is quite timely in the sense that Big Data and AI provide the specific backdrop to his approach. His three parameters of (C)ontext, (L)evel of Abstraction, and (P)urpose, and his "theory of truth" wrt information, together actually really helped me understand information in a more sociological sense.

    When there is a complete cessation of mental activities , ideas are ' presented' to the mind . These are the truths of the cosmos understood as soon as ' presented' , very gestalt like , spontaneously , with no timr involved. Such knowing is non propositional.. All of this happens in samadhi and is documented in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

  • @shwetasinghnm

    Breath and thoughts / thinking have a deep correlation. When samadhi happens ( complete cessation of all activities of the mind - memory, concept making , ), then the breath becomes so balanced between the right and left nostrils that it almost stops. This is all written in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali .

    @Footnotes2Plato I wonder: If I were to say: "Science can only ever "see" mechanism.!" In the sense, that the scientific method can only work on countable/measurable quantities and therefore "a priory" excludes any possibility of an account of final, theoleological cause, or even a description of "function".... What would be your response?

    • @Footnotes2Plato
      @Footnotes2Plato 8 днів тому

      I agree that scientific materialism can only ever see mechanisms. Its method is analysis, but it forgets its methodological choice and imagines that the world really is just a pile of parts. But there can be other kinds of science, other methodological choices. There can be organic or synthetic science capable of seeing wholes, and of recognizing that parts are always relative to the wholes to which they belong. The point is not to oppose synthetic science to analysis, as if the reductive method is not also an important part of the alchemical repertoire! The point is that coherent analysis itself depends upon a prior intuition of the way it all hangs together. Otherwise, with only analysis, we fall into the trap of imagining that reality has a finite resolution.

    It was occurring to me listening to this that implicit here is that the value vector of spiritual and religious impulses "ought" hopefully to involve the Good. The Cosmic Good as is co-created with every actual entity tapping in to it. I think it is important to having the inner strength to carry forth this value vector that we come to know cosmic purpose beyond the human, yet of which we are intimately and importantly a part of. We and God co-create eachother which is pretty awesome to be in that kind of intimate relationship. Certainly spiritual practices which water this seed are worth doing! Just like how scientific practice is not value neutral in that it seeks knowledge of the reality of the physical workings of the Universe, spiritual practice also seeks truths and experiences associated with those habits of nature correlating with the cosmic spiritual reality. Of course it is really just all part of the same cosmos.

    There is a natural amount of diverse sexual expression and androgyny which occurs in tribal contexts that don't involve the acceleration of media and the potential for its abuse. Campolo keeps coming back to the defense of masculinity in a proper way. The uncertainty around the gender-flexible narrative (however valuable the openness could be for the future) could be easily exploited by competing foreign intelligence operations via social media. I hope that this isn't the case, but when i see all of my students feeding off of tiktok, i begin to wonder. Campolo is coming from a real life experience that matt doesn't relate to. On the ground, in the field, for most of us, there is a hardcore fight for procreation. It shapes societies and it shapes warfare.

    • @decades5643
      @decades5643 12 днів тому

      "A hardcore fight for procreation"? What are you even talking about? You need to spend less time on the internet. It's not some Chinese or Russian conspiracy. LGBT has become more acceptable so of course you're going to get young confused kids/teenagers who want to fit in somewhere experimenting with their gender and sexuality. This isn't some mystery. People are flipping out about the trans issues because it's recently become more accepted and new things always cause controversy. That's not to say there aren't people who take these things too far.

      Gender binary or sexual binary has come out as a necessity. There's difference between asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction is more hierarchical and diverse. And fact male complete for reproduction it's biggest motivation. Feminists just consider it as negative or violent. Feminism is just caltural gynocentrecism. Feminists wants everything in society should happen what's best for woman.
